Hi Ben,
You seem to be talking around the elephant in the room, if not have a confused position on what defines success for Imugene.
There is no denying that Hervaxx was good science; It produced statistically significant data that showed an overall reduction in harm and a survival benefit to the participating patients.
Though cutting through the radio silence from Leslie. Hervaxx will never get out of phase 2 as its simply too difficult to recruit eligible patients to produce sufficient data to get Hervaxx into a registrational trial. (The patients who were eligible for the Next Horizon trial are often sadly too unwell to participate and be enrolled). Therefore the commercial decision was made to deprioritise Hervaxx and invest the time, money, and resources into more promising technology platforms the company owns.
At its core Imugene is a trading company on the ASX raising funds from shareholders to deliver a commercial return. It is not an incorporated non-for-profit charitable organisation rising funds via donations to pursue cancer research. (Home Research Lottery and many others if that is what one is seeking)
I would disagree to say there is no transferable research for Hervaxx’s “proof of concept” that adds any commercial value to out other technology platforms. So unless Hervaxx can be on sold to another suitor it will add no benefit to the company after the decade of time, effort, and money spent progressing the science.
To any fellow shareholder and investors, Hervaxx should act as cautionary tail that there are no guarantees in Biotech’s. And that even if your product works, that in itself is not sufficient to guarantee success and a commercial outcome.
