Indeed. I remember reading a research paper around 2012(ish?), which amongst other things discussed this very phenomena. An earlier experimental oncolytic virus study conducted in the 90's had been cancelled very early into the process due to an alarming increase in tumour size following administration of the virus. It was some years before the penny dropped, that the probable cause of the tumours rapid progression was a result of an inflammatory reaction of the infective process. It was a long time ago, but I'm reasonably sure that Axel Hoos and another academic from the University of Vienna were co-authors of that paper? But don't quote me, my memory's not what it used to be.
