I had Prostate cancer and lived to tell the tale, I will start by saying regular blood test for PSA is the first important step, when I tested positive with prostate cancer my then GP sent me off to his specialist mates, the first one said (do you own your own home) I was not sure what he meant until he said it was $22k to put 120 small radioactive pellets in the prostate, the second one wanted to do full removal but $29k. I have to admit I did smell a rat.
I decided to go to our large public hospital for advise, the doctor I visited sent me to his mate who was a cancer specialist and a professor in charge of the cancer section at another public hospital.
The professor advised me the first two options I was offered were not needed, he had the program all set out for me to have targeted radiation, 4 gold seeds in the prostate and 36 low dose of radiation. And no after affects, that was12 yrs ago everything still works, oh and the cost $18.00 that is 18 dollars not $22-29k.
Don't be afraid to get a second or third opinion the big money men will not tell you what real options there are. And theirs could leave you crippled.
