Yes, if central banks went earlier and harder, it would have knocked the wind out of inflation.
Central banks wanted a smoother return to "normal" (if that even exists) to avoid a hard landing recession.
Monetary policy is a sledgehammer approach - akin to killing off the patient and then attempting CPR to bring them back to life. Maybe there should be another option considered.
