Australian unemployment rate rose to 4.1%. This was despite there being more jobs created than expected.
Europrean markets were all largely down overnight.
The FTSE fell 49 points (.57%), the DAX fell 118 points (.53%) and the CAC did manage a small rise of 12 points (.15%).
In the US, the markets are still digesting the US Fed meeting minutes which appear to show that the US Fed is being very restrictive with any interest rate movements.
The DOW fell 450 points (1.01%), the NBI rose 24 points (.54%), the NASDAQ Composite fell 93 points (.47%) and the Russell small cap index fell 20 points (.91%).
Interesting to see that the NBI has risen each day after the Presidents Day public holiday.
US Fed minutes stated that Trumps policies may "hinder" the deflationary process.
Minutes from the Federal Reserve's January meeting revealed members of its committee believe Trump's policies might "hinder the disinflation process".
"Business contacts in a number of districts had indicated that firms would attempt to pass on to consumers higher input costs arising from potential tariffs," the minutes said.
The Fed minutes released yesterday also revealed "elevated uncertainty regarding the scope, timing, and potential economic effects of possible changes to trade, immigration, fiscal, and regulatory policies".
"A couple of participants remarked that, in the period ahead, it might be especially difficult to distinguish between relatively persistent changes in inflation and more temporary changes that might be associated with the introduction of new government policies"
US new jobless claims rose to 219k - up from 214k. Jobless claims are close to historical lows.
On a different track perhaps, Delta is offering passengers on the jet that flipped while landing at Toronto $30k compensation each with no strings attached.
US Treasury 10 year bond yield dipped to 4.506%
Oil prices are still edging up - Brent crude is at US$76.50 per barrel.
The gold price is sitting at US$2,937 per oz.
BITCOIN rose to US$98,391.
