The FTSE rose by 50 points (.64%), the DAX fell 188 points (.92%) and the CAC fell 21 points (.30%).
US markets all went up overnight.
The DOW rose 619 points (1.56%), the NBI rose 134 points (3.58%), the NASDAQ Composite rose 337 points (2.06%) and the Russell small cap index rose 28 points (1.57%).
The DOW has moved up or down in a day by more than 1,000 points just 31 times in 129 years. It has done so 4 times in the last week. US did not react though I think just matching increases in tariffs is proving counterproductive and lacks any real meaning at the moment and the US does not want to increase market volatility any further.
China lifted tariffs on US imports to 125%. China's Commerce Minister stated that China would ignore any further US retaliatory tariffs in the future.
US Fed NY president said outlook for US growth in 2025 was less than 1% and inflation would be 4% with unemployment at 5%. Cited labour force slowdowns, reduced immigration and tariff uncertainty.
Gold surged to record highs overnight as investors sought out safe havens.
US Treasury 10 year bond yields rose to 4.491% Investors are deserting government bonds as trust in government wanes.
Oil prices rose again - Brent crude is at US$64.70 per barrel.
Gold price is sitting at US$3,235 per oz. Some predictions that gold will reach US$3,500 in 2025.
BITCOIN rose to US$83,924.
