Yes, two different drugs, two different patents. However, it may be possible for a patent on the "improvement" on Keytruda, by the company that develops the improvement. However, the improvement would not be as functional/ valuable (I think) without the underlying patent on Keytruda. If the patent on Keytruda expires, anyone or company can then make the Keytruda drug. But will need to licence from the improvement owner in order to use the improvement on Keytruda. this is based on my understanding... a long long time ago when I started my career in patent prosecution (which didn't quite suit me and I have since moved on). Happy to be corrected.
