Free country, free market.
"id prefer to simply lease the assets to chinese for 50 years rather than let them own it forever". The same rule needs to apply all foreigner investors including white/black/latino Americans, Brits and Kiwis, Canadians, Russians etc.
There are millions of Asian-Americans (US citizens), do the same rule apply to those Chinese? What about African-Americans or mix-race (half Asian, half white)? NBA players (mainly African Americans) get US$10-20m salary p.a., they can buy just about any property in Australia. So you will take in white-Americans/Brits ONLY, not Asian-Americans, African-Americans (like President Obama) nor any race (eg Latino Americans like Jennifer Lopez).
What about Eastern Europeans like Russians? What about Kiwis Māori playing for NZ All-Black and wants to play for Australia instead and buy a property?
Chinese-British? Is it skin colour-based law? How will Andrew Forrest think of this as he hires a lot of Aboriginals? Regardless of skin colour, everybody work well at FMG to create wealth for everyone.
