I love the way you use the term "average Australian" DUB ... the average Australian is unfortunately that ... really really average.
The average Australian doesn't make an effort to be informed about anything, and really only watches news/current affairs as some special interest to watch while they eat their meal ... and that's about as far as it goes unfortunately. It's just unfortunate, because if they researched a little harder they would realise all the bs they are fed on commercial TV ... particularly on the issue of anti terror laws and industrial relations laws as the tip of the ice berg. They'd prefer to be ignorant and indifferent, but ultimately that 'stay out of things' attitude only ends up making things more difficult for them because the laws passed affect their lives more in the end.
