Traditionally the path out of poverty for the poor has been education and I see school dropouts in my community doing their best to look "cool" not realising that they, by dropping out of school, are simply perpetuating the culture of poverty.
Two of our neighbours, one a Korean foreign student has studied, worked, graduated with a CPA and now works for a large accountancy company.
The other is Chinese foreign student who has worked part time in the local cafe while studying is now a locum doctor in our local hospital and intends to be a GP shortly.
Both qualify for citizenship in 2 years time and have not cost the taxpayer a cracker.
Our equivalent would be beneficiaries of: -baby bonus -free juvanile health care -childrens allowance -subsidised child care -free State Primary & Secondary education -subsidised tertiary education.
