"The reason that we need immigrants is because our unemployed dont have the skills/education that employers want. eg: nurses, mechanics, plumbers, electricians etc etc."

But if we import new nurses, those new nurses will also require mechanics. If we import new mechanics, those new mechanics will require additional nurses. Importing people means you need to then bring in additional people to service them, and the additional people brought in to service the earlier additional people will require us to bring in additional people again to service the people who are servicing the earlier additional people. When will there be enough people?

It's a never ending ponzi. Good for GDP, not good for GDP per capita or for quality of life.
