I blame social media. It has caused an echo chamber where those who have different views to your own are not heard or not respected or are hated. There is no longer civil debate nor a middle ground. The narrative gets dominated by extremists. This is how the Libs have lurched to the right because the silent majority do not get heard. You also see this with Trump being elected, Brexit, etc etc. Happening everywhere.
