HotCopper was started in 1995 by Internet Entrepreneur Ron Gully. The name originated from Ron Gully's wish to have a forum that dealt with HOT Penny Stocks.
Correction: Hotcopper was started in 1993 by 11 co-founders, and I was one of them. Ron Gully joined us 2 years later.

HotCopper was one of the first bulletin boards for Australian based stocks.
Correction: HC was the first chat site in Australia about shares and it was based on Internet Relay Chat (IRC) technology.
and it started off with about discussion about all those sorts.
