More appropriate would be "Work is an Honour". This was over the gates of the Russian concentration camps before and after WW2.
The Germans based their camp designs on those of the Soviets which were perfected before WW2 by a Jew called Fenkel.

The Russian camps continued well after WW2. Some housed German women who were taken as war reparation by the Soviets. Most died (for example in Gulag 517).

If you want an illustration of life under socialists google Gulag 517.
