A large part of GDY's appeal for me is it's place in the political landscape in which we currently live.
Global warming skepticism is fading and it's safe to say the dire predictions are gaining more weight every day.
The Rudd government is in a position where they are being attacked by the Greens for not doing enough, and by the Liberals for threatening jobs.
Labor need a vehicle that will gain the public's attention and act as symbol of what baseload green power can do. Something big and bold. Something that will satisfy the greens, provide jobs, and generate (eventually) massive carbon-free energy. And imagine the credibility gained with the international scientific and political community!
Indeed, it would be nice to walk into the Copenhagen Climate Conference in December with GDY's development running full-steam ahead!
Once Proof of Concept and the 1MW pilot plant is established, I believe Federal and State Labor will be very excited at the political mileage to be gained by supporting it generously. I expect big financial support.
Various solar, wind and wave projects also provide hope, but nothing compares to the scale of what GDY has to offer.
