I had a quick look at today's Announcements, and considering that CCP is expensing its expansion costs in the USA, the profitability looks good. If CCP capitalised some of that expense (perhaps disallowed by accounting standards, but philosophically defensible), or achieved the same result via acquisition, NPAT would look better, but this would not mean the company was performing better. The last sentence is the hoary time-shifting that I often mention in HC posts on the topic of accounting.

The two negatives mentioned are:

• The ACCC is going after a minuscule debt collector called Panthera, and this is supposed to affect future dynamics of the whole PDL sector.
• Canaccord Genuity suspects that CCP's forecasts are optimistic, and it warns that US earnings trajectory may be slower.

I attach no weight to either of the foregoing opinions. That does not mean that the SP does not get the wobbles, as it did when that Checkmate Research document was published in June 2018. CCP had to call a Trading Halt to stop the SP from plunging on 21 June 2018.
