regarding your point, "Basically you will be left with an insurance company.", that's not exactly correct. Tower will retain their superannuation and their life insurance products which seem to be their 'core' business. I bought 40k of these at 1.09 and was always going to get out at 2.18 but noticed a comment by Jim Minto (CEO TWR Aust), "We hit a four-year sales peak in June", which enticed me to hold tight for the annual figures. My understanding is that over the last two years there have been widespread cost-cutting measures, which should bode well for a nice bottom line figure, and, of course, dividend.
