A number of reasons:
-Defensive nature of portfolio, combined with high level of cash reserves while the market was rallying
-USD not appreciating as they would like
-Investments in Barrenjoey, Guzman y Gomez aren’t profitable and may require more capital
-Positions in Alibaba and Tencent have performed badly
-Performance fess are at risk
- PE is already high
In say all this, Hamish is not the kind of guy to make irrational financial decisions so I am happy to back him, even with the above mentioned headwinds.
