why is tony unpopular

Tony Abbott seems to me to be the type of person whom if he was your next door neighbour you would give him a set of keys to your house and feel comfortable in saying look after my house while I'am on holidays. He appears to have decent values in most respects. He certaintly has the community spirit etc,which I think is important.
Education wise there is not much question.
Now on the other side of the coin,he is not great at presenting himself in a way that appeals to everyone.
But do we really want a PM who is good at showmanship, spin,and just telling us what we want to hear.
Summing up, Tony will never be a movie star or radio announcer,but that's not the job he's up for.
