yep. the reality is the first mover always has the upper hand unless they materially beat the first mover with results. as they are more advanced, more derisked version of more or less the same project. why potentially buy the next best thing when you can buy "the best thing" with less risk.
conversely if yoh wanted higher risk you may go for complete greenfields.
I think companies like VMM have great returns if you have patience. you often won't be rewarded as quickly as the first mover.
