Not a good idea to copy and paste copyrighted content, but I've summarised the article for you:
From May last year, the big four are down between 12 and 15%, vs a 0.2% fall in ASX200.
Bell Potter broker Richard Coppleson says that will turn, as March is typically a cracking month for banks.
However, will the banks decline again after April? Credit Suisse believes that the bad news in the banking sector will continue for at least the next 6 months.
Royal Commission, ACCC probe into mortgage pricing, Productivity Commission's inquiry, AUSTRAC case against CBA, issues around responsible lending (such as ANZ relying on payslips to prove income) all hurt.
Add to this a slowdown in housing sector and intense competition in mortgages.
However, the system is not broken, and although FY18 may be a write-off, banks are taking actions to support earnings over the medium term.
