the US could pay their debts whenever they wanted to. what's their gold reserve worth these days? and their overall asset position? but they are hopelessly insolvent? seriously?
these guys literally have a licence to print money. and print they will to deflate the hell out of the 'cash' they owe to the chinese and arabs.
another incovenient truth for the end of the world crowd is that of the $15 trillion in US Govt debt the shorters scream about, $6 trillion is in fact owed by divisions of the US Govt to other divisions of the US Govt.
That debt is as bogus as the shorters plying their ugly trade on this thread.
