Accidentally came across this interesting post and have an opinion..

Maybe the market is right. imo the "land grab" for csm and other unconventional gas has run its course in Australia (probably has some way to go in other parts of the world such as North America and Europe). We now have proved and probable csm resources in Australia amounting to over 1,000 years of local demand based on present levels of consumption of natural gas. That's alot - more than enough. So we are desperately seeking to monetise these resources via exports. It remains uncertain that this will happen - to any great degree.

csm players with plans to monetise via downstream processing - eg power stations, or with existing infrastructure to support gas production may do well - but those with massive resources and have brought no big brother on board may be in trouble.

We have a uniquely Australian problem too - governments in this country are very much committed to indefinitely producing base load electricity from coal - despite all the meaningless rhetoric about support for sustainable energy. Unless we can convince our governments (state and federal) to replace coal with natural/unconventional gas, and back compressed gas (CH4 as well as LPG) as a transport fuel, we are heading for alot of stranded assets in the csm/unconventional gas space.

So Mr Market might be trying to tell us something that we don't want to hear - and we respond by suppressing the unthinkable...
