I think that is crossbar being realistic in what they can achieve in the short term. not sure where i read it so paraphrasing a bit, crossbar is aware they cant compete with flash at the moment due to costs. They are targeting the other niche markets you mentioned first to get their production numbers up which in the future may allow them to bring their cost/gig to a comparable level to flash.
WBT will be the same, it will need to get cost/gig down to comparable levels of current flash memory otherwise it will be relegated to niche markets where power consumption/performance benefits outweigh the cost factor.
I think that is crossbar being realistic in what they can...
