Why overall gold mining sector down?

With the recent rising of the gold price, I'd assumed that would have kick started an up tick in investment in the gold mining sector in general, confused why it hasn't happened. Are the inflationary issues the problem overall, or has the smart money moved into the tech sector/bitcoin.. making me pretty confused and worried that cash generating business if that's what we eventually do become, in comparison aren't offering good enough returns anymore to investors.. love to know your thoughts
