It wasnt Keatings idea. I wrote a paper on trends in the over 55 population for the ABS and my division head was granted a national lecture tour speaking to my paper which he put his name on, for the Menzies Foundation. I actually pointed it out that if something wasnt done the ageing baby boomers would cripple the public purse down the track. Plus a lot of data why.
There were a lot of union people at the presentation and they picked up on it.
The heavy who presented it for the ABS was promoted for his brilliance, but when they later found out he didnt write it, apart from two sentences in thirty pages, (I kept my original with his scribble on it) they called him in a sacked him on the spot. Thats pretty rare in the APS.
Im not really a Keating fan. The heading im looking for is why Paul Keating is dead. Not dead wrong. They should have left him chained (he was literally I read, as he kept disappearing all day after signing on) to his desk in the MWS&DB, to try to get some work out of him.
