I am glad that this thread has at least in part promoted some reasoned debate. All I want to add is there appears to be a massive inflation here of the importance of PEP 11 as a political issue in the eyes of ordinary Australians.
The average person on the street neither knows about nor cares about this and it will not in any meaningful way influence who is returned in the next election outside of the few marginal seats in close proximity to it and even that is questionable. Pitt approving PEP 11 (which knowing that character of the man I still firmly believe will happen) will not precipitate the implosion of the Coalition and it is ridiculous, frankly, to suggest it will.
It is rather typical of that small section of coast over East to have an inflated sense of its own importance.
