why petrol is expensive in australia

    In Australia AUD1.50 a litre; AUD6.00 (USD6.30) a gallon.
    In U.S. of A USD4.00 a gallon; USD1.00 (AUD0.95) a litre.
    conversion rate .95USD = 1AUD
    that means petrol in australia is 50% expensive than US!
    Why?
    IMO state and commonwealth govt. taxes
    plus GST
