It's actually the equivalent of the pre-open market auction...........just that the match price of the buyers and seller as calculated around 4.05 becomes the close price for the day..............just as the match price in the morning between 10.00 and 10.08 or so (depending on alphabetical order grouping) becomes the open.
It happens every day........not just on Fridays.
