If there is value to be had in climate research into agriculture, keep those climate scientists who are doing research into agriculture.
Move the rest of the funding into more work done by bodies like the CSIRO on applicable technologies or direct partnership with industry.
I still shake my head at how little progress climate science has made in publishing specific impacts of climate change on major population centres. The science seems very good at collecting huge amounts of data, showing trends in said data, but seems to have real issues in collating all the variables into useable information showing the where / when of climate change impacts. For example, specific data from climate science could help building code authorities to work out where higher cyclone ratings for new buildings might now be required, or city planners to work out which parts of their city will need substantial flood mitigation work to account for rising tidal rivers or oceans.
