Sure it's a matter of degree.
But , scientific research isn't perfect in any field.
Name an example where scientists in any field can predict outcomes exactly. Medical research ? Astrophysics ? Mental health ? Etc.
It is all about doing the work, making an informed opinion and adjusting that opinion as the facts unfold.
It is also more about the learnings and the application of them that is important.
E.g. Provided the scientists are right, preventing or limiting man made climate change is almost pricless.
The more they work on the research, the better they will get at predicting outcomes resulting in the information that you are asking for.
It is because of climate change research and the warning of man made climate change the research into better agricultural practices and new energy technologies etc has been instigated.
That wouldn't have happened the other way round.
