** The current make-up of the grid allows for minimal storage of electricity, so power has to be generated around the clock to meet the nation’s energy needs. When the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing, Australia still relies on fossil fuels for energy. It is this unavoidable truth that has come to underpin the Coalition’s insistence that early closures of coal-fired power plants must be avoided at all costs.
