Reason why these white collar share price manipulators get away with this is because retailers let them get away with and don't stand up as group and counter.
SP falls off a cliff like today, completely oversold. most people panic and sell perpetuating the fall, shorters love this and continue to do it. If retailers collectively bought in when they saw happening, shorters wouldn't be so quick to manipulate the share price. It's very oversold now.
