You may be correct but you're forgetting that 'retailers' - by which you mean 'mums and dads' - are disaggregated with not all being constant watchers of ASX trades or individual stocks. And many of us fall in love with individual or collective holdings.
Take you point though - 'buy on fear and sell on the upside' is what you're suggesting.
