Try and not risk more than 2% of your capital on any one trade, meaning set your stop loss at 2% of your enitre capital. If that means lightening up on how much you put into the stock then so be it. Learn how to read charts, enter stocks as close to support as you can. Set your stops a little bit under support (to account for whipsaws) and adjust the amount you invest to allow for it.

You may not think so yet, but tight stop losses when you enter a stock at the right time work.
