In a nutshell, gasoline cannot be beat on a weight to weight basis, and on a crash-safety basis. This may be a contributing factor as to why the big players are backing off from the lithium sector - recognition of the hard limits of the energy-physics involved.
It's best to understand the issues. It would seem that to make batteries more energy-dense would be to make them more dangerous.
