Amigos, the countries without petroleum resources (eg India, China, Japan, Korea, etc) are driving the EV revolution. No matter what Tesla and Saudis do, the EV will be price competitive with ICE by 2022. Also, the pollution of diesel and petrol cars is another reason for Europe's and China's move to EV transport. It is cheaper to run, takes less 50% less infrastructure to build, and is about 2 to 5 times more efficient than ICE. The private sector along with companies (VW, Toyota, etc) are driving change because they have done the maths and don't want to be left behind. In Oz, governments have their head in the sand. They have no plan to assist the industry and have set hardly any vehicle pollution controls. We are the slowest to move because we have no energy policy. The media also is not really reporting what is happening overseas, so there is a low level of education. Some may call the shift to EV just fake news. But that's like the king who commanded the tide to stop coming in. How did that work for him?
