Why Tesla's Pr Jeff Dahn was so excited about NVX's DPMG breakthrough!

Since Novonix will be entering the ASX S&P Technology Index on Monday the 21st of September, I thought I'd dig a little deeper into the new ground breaking technology they announced in May 2020.

Pr Mark Obrovac and his team of researchers at Dalhousie University invented, Dry Particle Microgranulation (DPMG) 100% owned by Novonix.

1. Complete elimination of Water and Petro Chemicals

Novonix's DPMG manufacturing process eliminates the need for water and harsh petro chemicals from the production process.

"99,000 litres for every 6.5 tonnes of Cathode Materials manufactured...." NVX ASX Announcement (See below).

An example of this incredible saving is shown below.POSCO will manufacture 40,000 tonnes of Cathode material in 2020. If they decide to license Novonix's DPMG process, POSCO would save 609million litres of precious drinking water and harsh petro chemicals every year.

Globally, over 610,000 tonnes of Cathodes are manufactured today.(See article below). If all of these Cathode manufacturers implemented the DPMG process, the world would save 9.3Billion Litres of water and petrochemicals each year......

There is also the elimination of dryers/ovens, filtration systems, massive water ponds, pumps and treatment plants. Enomous capex cost savings and significant reduction in the size of the plant required to manufacture the materials.

2. Simple 3 Step Process of Novonix's DPMG compared to the hideously complicated CSTR method used today.

1. GRINDING
2. DPMG process within the mechano fusion machine.
3. Classifying (DPMG already completes most of this time consuming step that requires a completely separate step in the CSTR method)

Now you are ready for Sintering and adding the Lithium to the NMC/NCA/LFP cathode material.

3. Yield Increase from 50-60% to 100% by using Novonix's DPMG process




4. Novonix's DPMG allows Cathode manufacturers to use CHEAPER OXIDES (30-50% cheaper than sulphides used today) Nickel Oxides, Manganese Oxides, Cobolt Oxides, Phosphate Oxides and still manufacture Cathode material that is AS GOOD or BETTER than the best Cathode materials manufactured from Sulphides....

If Tesla implements Novonix's DPMG for the manufacture of Cathode and Anode materials, they will significantly reduce the life cycle emissions (blue bars) for the Tesla models.....
