If you watched the 7:30 Report tonight on ABC you would have seen that the outsourcing of jobs to other low-pay, English-speaking countries like India (and to a much lesser extent, the Philippines) is gathering momentum and will soon extend to many white collar sectors, not just IT. I know that in many cases, Australian workers have been made to train their replacements before getting the sack. Not a recipe for gratitude and goodwill!
This aspect of globalisation is based on hypocrisy because the pay rates of Australians is significantly justified by the much higher taxes, housing costs, food costs, phone costs, clothing costs, etc. In other words, it is not a level playing field, yet the worker is supposed to compete with the low-paid offshore worker.
The people choosing to outsource the jobs of their fellow Australians never reduce their own charges or prices to pass on the benefit to any degree. They need to remember that the more they export jobs, the poorer Australia will become.
