More news today pn BBC World Service-Business. The world's biggest steelmaker, Arcelor Mittal has reported a US$1.7b profit in the June quarter. This compares with a loss of $792m in same quarter a year ago and a profit of $679m in the March Quarter. Profit in Sept Qtr expected to be somewhat lower as slowdown in rate of growth in China will have some effect.
Reasonable to expect BSL will be subject to the same sort of influences and have a similar pattern but modified somewhat by the rise in the $A. A substantial improvement in the spot steel price has occurred. Basically for the last couple of years the prices/tonne of rolled sheet have had a six in front of them but in the June quarter it was always a 7, and continues there.
