The Federal Government's carbon tax and an increase on LPG tax will push up the price of LPG further and WA prices are among the highest in the country.

This week LPG averaged 83c/L, up from 66.5c last financial year- a 20% increase. In the same period, Pertg petrol prices rose 10%. Industry group LPG Australia hit back at the Government for another LPG tax rise-to 5c a litre from July-while slashing an LPG conversion subsidy.

"Where are the Government's standards? LPG has 15% less vehicle emissions than petrol, is half the price of petrol, is available at 4,000 stations around Australia and is largely a home grown product."

"You would think that a Government trying to reduce carbon emissions would provide incentives for this product. But the subsidy to convert to LPG has fallen to a point where it isn't as attractive as before."

The Federal Gov's rebate for a gas conversion would fall to $1,000 from next monthbefore being phased out next year.

LPG rise has been blamed on a jump in Europe because of a winter demand, the end of a national vehicle fuel discount war in Australia and the effect of the Gov's new LPG tax that started from December 2011.

Also, imo, Australia should have supplies that are not dependent on so called overseas factors. A percentage to be locked for Australia and if need be subsidised by the Federal/State Governments to cover these so called external price gouging factors.

As to the carbon tax. The biggest con of the century. All we need now is a reneging Australia wide on solar rebates and feed in tariffs. That'll be next.

Public was conned into diesel, and it went over petrol's price. LPG is outstripping petrol's rise.

    Typical Government balls up.

    Happy polluting.
