re: nam why the fuss re wmd look no further Your memory is short Bears & Bulls. Kosovo was page 1 for many months and the UN was in turmoil, lacking a consensus to ratify military action until finally NATO was about to take military action, when the UN passed a resolution in support.

On that occasion there was general support in the West for intervention to stop attrocities, stop genocide and to stop the situation becoming a wider conflict (after all the Balkans was the source of WW1).

The US never had such a vested interest and a precious non-renewable resource was not at stake.

And yes, Milosevic was worse than Saddam. Both are murderers but Milosevic was following Hitler's racial cleansing and organised extermination path (different victims, similar methods). Saddam at least doesn't so much kill for ideological reasons as to remove his enemies.

Anyway, that's not the point - which is the worst murderer, irrelevant. They'd both be better off dead but it's the inconsistency of invasion, control of resource and above all the implied threat that you better not deny the US that sets Iraq aside.

Think about Hitler, Idi Amin, even Stalin. No action on behalf of their people. Why? Nothing in it for us that's why.
