a good first-up effort deconvic - agree with all you have said but the big question is how/who do you take this argument to?
also there is the matter of taxes paid by the company (which someone else posted prior) - minmetals won't be paying tax here in the same way or as many $m's as an australian company like ozl would.
there are many inequities in all of this - the institutional holders wield all the power and they really don't care too much if one of the companies they invest in goes down the gurgler. and the board and ceo of ozl do not consider themselves answerable to the shareholders who own the company and pay their wages.
