Lets look at what they have
Resources as big as what BHP have in the same area, BHP have the rail line in ready to go, BHP just signed new contacts up 19% (except china). My bet before FMG really start spending the big bucks BHP do a deal, they have to get past the management ownership, so they have to offer a good price.
My guess 1 BHP for 2 FMG but first bid will start with 1 for 3, if BHP dont RIO might they have the money as well. I think FMG will be like a new toy one wants it then both want it. Maybe not this week but in the next 6 months you'll see, especially if the Chinese agree to the new iron ore price. Lets face it prices will not drop for a long time especially with India starting want more now as well.
But hey what do i know i just trade and make a few bucks on the side
