Retail sales figures for November 2017 out today. Retail sales jumped 1.2% v. forecast of 0.4%.
It was the largest monthly increase for nearly five years, and the Electrical and Electronic Goods Retailing subgroup rose a seasonally adjusted 9.3%! Phone retailer VTG upgraded 1H2018 earnings yesterday and pointed to the releases of the recent iPhones as a catalyst. More bad news for department stores (retail sales fell 1.1%).
