I am a buyer today on margin...I firmly believe (and with some justification as a former insider), that CBA does not have the issues that NAB and ANZ has disclosed. If that is the case then they have been thrashed down with no reason. I expect there is some nervousness with their reporting coming up within a few weeks. But assuming that report is in line with previous public statements (and why wouldn't it?), then we should see a very solid result.
Nevertheless, the management there is sensible enough to recognise an opportunity when they see it and therefore I expect to see a level of conservatism in their provisioning....because they can, still without looking weak relative to peers.
