Latest News Western Australia's government says the states need to win their High Court challenge to the federal government's industrial relations reforms, to prevent the commonwealth forcing uranium mining at state level.
WA premier Alan Carpenter says the result will have wider repercussions than just industrial relations.
Mr Carpenter says the commonwealth's indicated it might override the states, to force the mining of uranium.
He says states shouldn't have their constitutional rights and responsibilities kicked aside by the commonwealth.
The High Court action's launched by the states today centres on whether the Commonwealth has the power to interfere in state industrial relations through its use of the constitutional corporations power.
The case is expected to be heard over six days.
