Sydney clearances pass 80pc as first home buyers step up

There were 578 auctions held in Sydney over the past week returning a preliminary clearance rate of 80.3 per cent, according to CoreLogic.
A week earlier there were 447 auctions with a clearance rate of 77.6 per cent. By contrast, one year ago the 523 auctions held in Sydney returned a clearance rate of 54.6 per cent.
Melbourne's clearance hit 79.2 per cent from 717 homes listed for sale. A week earlier the Victorian capital had 419 homes listed for sale, with a final clearance rate of 68.5 per cent.
