Hi bornenonose,
The simple fact is "we" (Energy providers) have to come up with some sort of fuel answer to:-
1. Meet increasing future demand; and
2. As a possible future oil replacement after "peak oil".
The pollution issue can be mitigated by:-
a) Scientific means and a cleaner manufacturing & burning process; and
b) By some sort of carbon offset.
I imagine you could introduce an argument of bio-fuel negatives to compare with syn-fuels.
Bio-fuels are more energy intensive therefore more polluting to produce, and they use current arable land that would otherwise be used to farm food.
A real question is would syn-fuels compare favourably with bio-fuels???
Cheers, Pie :-)
