There has been resistance in Libya for decades and its been clear in the media that army units in western libya defected at the outset and there is the source of the heavy weapons.
A bit of realism please. The last thing western leaders want is military engagement when they are all so broke. However Libya is a stones throw from Europe. Gaddaffi is ripe for a fall, clearly his people do not want him there and nor to do other Arab leaders so there is some degree of international legitimacy. The tide of history is against Gaddaffi.
If there are oil interests so what. People claiming the Iraq war was about oil would do well to remember not one contract went to an American company. Nor is their oil in Afghanistan. There is plenty of oil in Nigeria but no-one cares about that country because it is a corrupt basket case.
Its ludicrous to suggest you can tackle Bahrain in the same way and risk antagonising both Saudi and their arch enemy Iran.
